Differentiation of Occlusal Discolorations and Carious Lesions with Hyperspectral Imaging In Vitro

چکیده

Stains and stained incipient lesions can be challenging to differentiate with established clinical tools. New diagnostic techniques are required for improved distinction enable early noninvasive treatment. This in vitro study evaluates the performance of artificial intelligence (AI)-based classification hyperspectral imaging data occlusal lesion detection differentiation from stains. Sixty-five extracted permanent human maxillary mandibular bicuspids molars (International Caries Detection Assessment System [ICDAS] II 0–4) were imaged a camera (Diaspective Vision TIVITA® Tissue, Diaspective Vision, Pepelow, Germany) at distance 350 mm, acquiring spatial spectral information wavelength range 505–1000 nm; 650 fissural spectra used train algorithms (models) automated between but sound enamel lesions. Stratified 10-fold cross-validation was used. The model highest performance, fine k-nearest neighbor algorithm, classify five additional tooth areas. Polarization microscopy ground sections served as reference. Compared lesions, intact showed higher reflectance 525–710 nm lower 710–1000 nm. A algorithm achieved Matthews correlation coefficient (MCC) 0.75, sensitivity 0.95 specificity 0.80 when distinguishing spectra. superposition color-coded results on further projections enabled qualitative assessment entire fissure’s health. AI-based evaluation images is highly promising complementary method visual radiographic examination detection.

Clinical Reversal of Occlusal Pit and Fissure Carious Lesions (OPFCLs)

Ozone has been shown to clinically reverse carious lesions in previous studies. This study aimed to assess a single 20-second dose of ozone to manage primary occlusal pit and fissure carious lesions in a general dental practice over a 24-month time period. Treatment of the carious lesion consisted of thorough prophylaxis of the occlusal surface, treatment with ozone or compressed air for 20 sec...

Accurate diagnosis of occlusal carious lesions--a stereo microscope evaluation of clinical diagnosis.

This study was undertaken to validate the caries status of 214 teeth by serial sectioning and microscopy after caries diagnosis using four methods. Two hundred and fourteen extracted human teeth with varying degrees of caries were mounted in the jaws of nine training manikins. All tooth surfaces were examined and recorded for caries by four dentists using bitewing radiographs, fibre-optic trans...

A randomized clinical trial on the sealing of occlusal carious lesions: 3-4-year results.

This randomized clinical trial aimed to assess the efficacy of sealing occlusal carious lesions in permanent teeth. The sample consisted of 54 occlusal carious lesions in permanent molars and premolars of 49 patients aged 8-43 years (median: 19 years). The inclusion criteria comprised the presence of a cavity with no access allowing biofilm control. The maximum depth of the lesion was the middl...

Assessment of the ozone-mediated killing of bacteria in infected dentine associated with non-cavitated occlusal carious lesions.

The ability of ozone to kill micro-organisms associated with non-cavitated occlusal caries was investigated. The occlusal surfaces were treated with ozone (n = 53) or air (n = 49) for 40 s, and the underlying infected dentine was exposed. There was no significant difference between the number of bacteria recovered from the ozone-treated and the control sites (p > 0.1). Treatment of the exposed ...
